Adopt an Element
You are now the proud parent of an element baby! Congratulations on your new responsibility. Being a parent can be tough...you really need to understand your element baby, so that you know how to take care of it. Is your baby radioactive? Should you be wearing a protective suit? Is your baby a gas at room temperature? Maybe it needs to be kept in a special container, so it doesn't get away! Maybe your baby is highly reactive! If you know, you can find out what other elements to keep your baby away from.
Use the resources on this page to help you complete your Adopt an Element Project.
You must do the following steps to complete your project:
1. Choose an element that is new to you.
2. Review the Research Plan- Plan out your project! Be mindful of the amount of time you have in class and outside of class to complete your work. Remember- DUE DATES ARE ALWAYS CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR!!
3. Decide how you want to take notes. You may prefer handwritten notes or you may prefer typing notes. Let Mrs. Jackson know your decision!
4. When researching, you must always paraphrase your notes. (Reminder: Paraphrase means to write it in your own words.)
5. Keep track of all your sources. When you use images in your project, they must always be cited.
6. Write "history" and "uses" paragraphs.
7. Start creating your "Baby Block" in word using the template that is located below so that it is the appropriate size.
8. Print out the 6 research squares. If you want color printing, you must let Mrs. Jackson know or print at home.
9. Construct your cube and glue on your research squares.
10. Submit your completed notes and cube to Mrs. Jackson.
11. If you finish early, you may complete extensions to your project for extra credit!
This is going to be a lot of fun and I cannot wait to see how wonderful your work turns out!! Researching is a lot of work, but it is very rewarding. Remember to try your hardest, not give up, and have fun. You all are wonderful!
